Top 10 FREE Stock Image Websites
So, here's the deal...
When you’re starting up a new business, you know you have to look the part to build trust with your potential customers. One of the most detrimental things you can do for your business is use low quality or copyrighted images. There’s nothing worse than handing over a brand new website to a client, to then see that they’ve filled up their blog with fuzzy, stretched images from Google Image search. But, forking out hundreds (or even thousands) of dollars for professional photography is just not in the budget - I totally understand!
As a designer I go through A LOT of photos, particularly in my portfolio and mockups. As much as I love taking my own photos, this is usually not an option as it takes a lot of time and effort. (Time is money people! That’s what they say... right?)
So - I have compiled a list of what I believe are the Top 10 Free (yes, 100% free!) Stock Image websites. I have also attached a link to the licences for each website, definitely check these out, though I think most of the licences are basically a “do whatever the hell you want with these!” sorta deal.
Death to Stock - beautiful photos straight into your inbox
I love Death to Stock because they provide sets, multiple images that have a cohesive aesthetic, which is super helpful if you’re a designer. You can sign up to their mailing list and they send you monthly photo sets. Just stockpile these emails into a different folder and you’ve got yourself a great resource.
Magdeleine - color coded photos!?
This website is quality over quantity. Although there’s not many photos, they’re all of such a high standard and their search functionalities are so user friendly, you can even search by color!
The licences vary picture to picture so you’ll have to check each one!
Life of Pix - Love this one!
No specific license page but at the bottom of the 'About' page they state: “Free high-resolution photos, no copyrights restrictions. Images for personal and commercial use.” Sounds good to me!
I hope these resources will help you with your business, I know they help me! It's SO worth using high quality images - even though these may take a little longer to sort through, it will pay off in the long run!
